Washington, The Western

Washington today reminds me of the old westerns I used to watch as a kid and still love today.  You know, the ones where the town is run by a gang of criminals and all the townsfolk are afraid because if they stand up to these bullies they get beaten, or even worse, killed.  That kind of reminds me of Washington today.  Washington does not follow the Constitution, the supreme law of the land; instead, our elected leaders act like those criminals.  And if anyone stands up to them the bullies drag them through the courts, fine them, jail them, take their homes and farms, and then, just for good measure, they destroy not only their reputations but their families as well!  And why does our government treat the people that way?  In the name of keeping us safe or of maintaining law and order?  No, all in the name of maintaining their illegal empire!

When our Founding Fathers created this nation, they wanted to create a government of laws not of men.  Sadly, today our government is one of men and women who disregard the law whenever it seems convenient.  Like the criminals in my westerns, the law isn’t applied to them, and they are allowed to get away with anything they want.  And much like the townsfolk in those same westerns, the people of the United States are unwilling to stand up for their rights because they are afraid of the consequences.

Think about your favorite westerns; how many of them involve abused people that need to be rescued.  They need someone to come help them, pull them together, and show them that not only can someone stand up to these bullies, but if they stand together they can do it themselves.  Whether your favorite western has one, two, four or seven heros, the story is the same.  The hero(s) stand up to the bullies, fight a difficult fight, and somewhere along the way some of the people learn that they can stand up and defend their friends and families themselves.

Our nation was to be run by and for the people and the government was created to protect our rights.  However, today government seems to exist to exercise and expand their power over the people.  If you feel like the townsfolk in one of those westerns, the good news is you’ve recognized the problem. The question now is: What will you do about it?  There are people today standing up to our out of control government, but there are not enough.  Like our westerns where one or two good people try to stand up to the bullies, there just aren’t enough of them to protect themselves.  And that is where we come in.

Americans once realized not only our need to defend our rights, but our responsibility to control our government.

The people — the people — are the rightful masters of both Congresses, and courts — not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert it —”

Abraham Lincoln, Notes for Speech in Kansas and Ohio

Have enough heroes shown up to rally the American people to stand up to our bullies in government, not on the battlefield, but at the ballot box?  Are we prepared to stand together and overthrow the people who have perverted our Constitution?  The fight will be long and it will be hard, but few things worth doing are easy.  We fight not just for our rights, but for those of our children and their children.  Is that reason enough for you to stand with us?  As everyday Americans begin standing up to the abuses of government, will you stand with them, or will you cower behind closed doors praying that the government will leave you alone?  The choice is yours, between a government of laws or one of tyrants.

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.
