Thanksgiving 2018

As we celebrate this national day of Thanksgiving, let us not forget to give thanks for living in one of the freest nations in the world.  If you live in America you may be tempted to say, as I’ve seen frequently in news reports and pundit interviews, that we are the freest nation on earth.  Sadly, that has not been true for some time.  According the the Cato Institute’s Human Freedom Index 2017, the United States of America ranks 17th.  Now 17th out of 159 countries isn’t bad, but it’s not where most Americans think we rank.

So be glad and give thanks that you live in the 17th freest nation in the world.  And while New Years’ resolutions are still a way away, maybe resolve to work towards making us the 16th freest by Thanksgiving next year.

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.
