Independence Day – An Investment in America

When those 56 men signed their name to the Declaration of Independence, they were investing not only in their future, but the future of what became the United States of America.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

Yes, they invested their fortunes to obtain their independence, but they also invested their lives and their honor. As we celebrate our independence, are we willing to invest in America’s future?

And since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the Republican model of Government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.

I know it doesn’t seem like it, but the future of America is in your hands. The freedoms and liberty you enjoy tomorrow will be based on those you protect today. And the freedoms your children and grandchildren enjoy will be those they inherit from you. So how are you investing in not only your future, but that of your family?

When we hear people talk about investing, it usually involves money. The Biden Administration talks about investing in our nations’ infrastructure. Many organizations ask for people to invest in the work that they are doing. But how do we invest in liberty and freedom? John Jay knew the answer.

Every member of the State ought diligently to read and to study the constitution of his country, and teach the rising generation to be free. By knowing their rights, they will sooner perceive when they are violated, and be the better prepared to defend and assert them.

John Jay not only accomplished many things in his life, he contributed greatly to American liberty. He helped negotiate and sign the treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War, he helped draft the Constitution in the Continental Congress, he wrote several of the Federalist Papers, he was the second Governor of New York State, and he was the first Chief Justice of the United States. So I think he knows a thing or two about investing in liberty. What did John Jay say we should do to invest in our liberty? Read and study the Constituiton, and teach the rising generation to be free.

The Constitution Study

Founded in 2014, The Constitution Study helps everyday Americans follow John Jay’s advice and invest in their future. With articles, videos, and a podcast, I look at the what is happening in America today from a constitutional point of view. I help show that you don’t have to be a judge or lawyer to understand and apply the supreme law of the land. Everything on The Constitution Study website is free for you to use and share, to help you invest in your future.

As part of my mission to invest in the education of others, I am putting on a Knowing Your Rights tour. This group of meeting is designed to help people recognize how their rights have been violated and how to defend and assert them properly. The events are organized by local leaders. The Constitution Scholars

A subsidiary of The Constitution Study is The Constitution Scholars. This site is for people who want to learn how to read and study the Constitution better. Registration is free, and gives you access not only to a library of books, videos, and classes, but to groups of other scholars where we can all share our knowledge, our love for this country, and invest in each other to help secure America’s freedom. For those who want to learn how to teach others, there is a mentorship program. Starting as an Apprentice, you will not only learn more about the Constitution, but how to study it for yourself. As you progress to Journeyman and Master, your skills development will focus on learning how to share what you have learned and how to teach others.

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.
