PRESS RELEASE: The Constitution Study’s Blessings of Liberty Tour to Visit Williston, ND 

WILLISTON, ND – September 9, 2022 [Sons of Liberty – Williston Basin] — Paul Engel of The Constitution Study is coming to the Ernie French Center, Sunday September, 25th at 6:00PM to share the blessings of liberty with us. According to the Preamble, the Constitution of the United States was created to help secure those blessings of liberty, yet this document is not taught, even in our law schools. Founding Father and first Chief Justice John Jay said that “Every member of the State ought diligently to read and to study the constitution of his country, and teach the rising generation to be free.” This tour, the latest in a series of events will show, by quoting the Constitution, our Founding Fathers, and a few Supreme Court cases, that our understanding of the government structure in America is inverted. The Declaration of Independence says that we “… are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These are just some of the blessings of liberty, but I was taught that it was wrong to use a word to define itself. So what is this liberty that so many Americans have fought and died for? Noah Webster defined liberty in his 1828 dictionary as “Freedom from restraint…The body is at liberty when not confined; the will or mind is at liberty when not checked or controlled.”

Now look at your life today. Do you live your life free from restraint? How often have you been confined by lockdowns, burdensome regulations, or licensing laws? Is your mind controlled by others? Are you at liberty or are you a subject of government? What can you do to secure the Blessings of Liberty?

The American people have become enslaved to all powerful governments for two basic reasons:

First, an inversion of the power structure in America. The American people are supposed to have power. We have delegated a limited and defined number of powers to the United States. Yet today most Americans live as if they are ruled from Washington, D.C.

Second, we have been taught that is this what the Framers created.

If we wish to enjoy the Blessings of Liberty, we need to restore the proper power structure in this country. To do that, we must be educated by our Founding Fathers about the country they created.

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care.
