The lunatics are running the asylum

Take a look at our government “leaders,” and what do you see? I see a group of self-absorbed people seeking their own power and advancement over their oath to support the Constitution. I see their ambition, their desire to get others to do things their way, leading to some really crazy decisions. It’s not only led to the IRS apparently spying on the American people but to those in the agency doing so while they believe it’s unconstitutional. It’s led to this administration again violating their oath of office in an attempt to bribe college graduates for their votes. It leads to Congress appropriating three times as much money to defend Ukraine’s borders than to defend our own.

This insanity doesn’t just come from Washington, D.C., or your state house. Albert Einstein said that doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome, was the definition of insanity. Yet when I ask people, “How can you tell when a politician is lying?” the answer is always some variation of “Their lips are moving!” Then why do we keep hiring representatives that we know are lying to us over and over again?

What does it say about the American people that those we know are liars, cheats, and thieves are the ones we keep electing over and over again? Suppose Einstein is correct and doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome, is the definition of insanity. In that case, the lunatics truly are running the asylum, and they are us.

Paul Engel

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.
