Preparing the election battlespace

After the 2020 and 2022 elections, people should not be surprised that the 2024 election is going to be a battle, both legal and tactical. While most of the attention appears to be on the Presidential race, there is a potential for almost any race to generate a legal challenge and a court to decide finally. From a tactical standpoint, I expect many races to be battles rather than gentlemanly competitions. You may not have noticed, but there are those already preparing the battlespace in order to give themselves an advantage when the first volley of ballots are cast.

Elections have always been a form of battle. Two or more people line up with their armies, their supporters behind them. For that reason, political candidates try to gain any advantage they can to win the battle before it is fought. Preparing the electoral battlespace is not only key to elections but, after the 2020 and 2022 elections, important to our future as a republic.

The Secretary of State of Alabama is warning citizens about mass mailings of pre-filled registration forms. These are not coming from the state but from allegedly non-partisan actors funded by partisan groups. The NAACP in Pennsylvania sued to force the state to accept mail-in ballots that did not meet state law. Thankfully, the NAACP lost. Meanwhile, the Montana Supreme Court found several voting reform laws unconstitutional.

Preparing the election battlespace may sound a little like Sun Tzu. However, based on the last few years, it appears those who hate our country have been preparing to win at all costs. Shouldn’t We, the People, prepare just as hard to keep our rights without breaking the law?

Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.
