Why America’s debt and greed are intertwined

Most Americans have heard the phrase, “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” I’m sure most are also aware that it comes from the Bible, specifically 1 Timothy 6:10. Yet how many of us are aware of how much we love using other people’s money to boost our egos, promote our agendas, and, in the process, bring pain and sorrow to the American people?

The United States has an enormous debt that is growing due to record annual deficits. This has led to inflation and high-interest rates and even influences our foreign policy. Yet every time Congress considers cutting its budget to help rein in this problem, people across America scream, “Don’t take away my bribe!” OK, they don’t use the word “bribe,”but that is exactly what they are taking.

Lobbing cash at our problems hasn’t made things better, either. Just look at our public education system. The more the United States spends per pupil, the lower we rank in international education standards. Yet, propose solutions like charter schools or school choice, and people claim you’re trying to destroy our failing education system. Throw money at the drug problems, homelessness, or the climate agenda, and again, things just get worse. Why, with all of the evidence of these failures, do Americans still clamor for more of other people’s money? The answer is simple: greed. We want the accolades for doing something or being charitable. We just want other people to pay for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is pure greed.
