Patterns and consequences: A deeper look

Humans are generally pretty good at spotting patterns. Just look up at the clouds by day or the stars at night, and you’ll see all sorts of shapes that aren’t really there. Cloud shapes and constellations are where you find patterns. We see patterns in everyday life, and frequently, it helps us understand the world around us.

Some patterns are obvious, such as the law-fare being used to keep Donald Trump off the ballot in November and the treatment of some of the defendants on January 6th. Others are not so obvious, like the attempts to control what you hear, thereby controlling what you think.

These patterns, and, in fact, our actions, all have consequences. Again, sometimes they are obvious. Like fast food prices in California going up after they raise their minimum wage to $20/hour, others may not be so obvious, like when Congress follows China’s lead in banning popular messaging apps.

Sometimes, the consequences of our decisions are worth the pain and effort they cause; other times, not so much. But until we recognize the patterns and see the consequences, We, the People, will continue to be led around on a leash, not of leather or chain, but of thought.
