After Republicans passed a funding framework that cut waste, protected U.S. workers’ wages (including no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security income), and tightened abuse in federal health programs, Democrats demanded the money that used to be available to cover medical care for illegal immigrants be put back into the budget.
