Like many of you, I am a product of the public schools. Like many of you I thought the Constitution was for lawyers and judges. One day I read the Constitution, and was surprised to find I didn't need a law degree to understand it. Then I read the Declaration of Independence, the Federalist Papers and even the Anti-Federalist Papers. As I learned more and more about our founding fathers and documents I saw how little we know about how our country was designed to work and how many people just didn't care. I started The Constitution Study to help those who also want read and study our Constitution.

    1. Actually, depending on the context, all three terms can describe the United States of America.

The Constitution is a compact between states, effectively creating a union.

U’NION, noun [Latin unio, to unite, from unus, one.]

      1. The act of joining two or more things into one, and thus forming a compound body or a mixture; or the junction or coalition of things thus united.

      7. States united. Thus the United States of America are sometimes call the union

While we are all citizens of the states in which we reside, we are also citizens of this union of states, which can properly be called a nation.

NATION, noun A body of people inhabiting the same country

Republic describes the polity that this nation is governed by, as opposed to the democracy it is often called.

REPUB’LIC, noun [Latin respublica; res and publica; public affairs.]

      1. A commonwealth; a state in which the exercise of the sovereign power is lodged in representatives elected by the people.

BTW, all these quotations come from the Webster’s 1828 dictionary.
