U.S. District Court Judge Eli Richardson on Monday set March 17 as the hearing date for the Trump administration to respond to the habeas corpus petition by Estefany Rodriguez, the Colombian journalist who was living in Nashville until being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week.
Richardson, who was appointed by President Donald Trump during his first term in the White House, originally ordered the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to provide a response to Rodriguez’s show-cause petition last week, but Rodriguez has since amended her complaint to include a First Amendment component, arguing the Trump administration illegally detained her in retribution for her critical reporting about ICE.
