Rights Groups Sue Trump Administration over Proposed Childcare Funding Cuts
The Hill Civil rights groups sued the Trump administration on Monday, after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) failed to respond to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for records relating to attempts to freeze billions of dollars in federal childcare funding in response to fraud claims. The lawsuit was brought on by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the ACLU of Illinois, the ACLU of Colorado, the National Women’s Law Center and the National Center for Law and Economic Justice. The groups accused the agency of failing to respond to a March FOIA request seeking documents relating to the administration’s funding freeze affecting five Democrat-led states: California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and New York. Jouppi argues that under the 8th Amendment’s bar on excessive fines, courts must consider the “gravity of the specific defendant’s wrongdoing.” In his case, he said, that didn’t happen and his “airplane [was] forfeited for a six-pack.”

FBI Files Expose Michigan Operation Suspected of Targeting Trump Voters
Newly released FBI files reveal that an employee of a mysterious Michigan voter-registration operation told federal agents she believed the company may have been attempting to suppress support for President Donald Trump during the 2020 election.
Still, the memo raises new questions about who financed the organization, why canvassers were paid via malfunctioning debit cards, what happened to the collected forms, and why a former employee came away believing the operation may have targeted Trump voters.

Kendra Scott was arrested after police found a 20-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound in the back of his head outside her Memphis home just before 2 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Post.
The deadly incident unfolded after Scott’s teen daughter told cops she invited the man, Rodderius Morton, to the family’s home at around 1 a.m., according to the court document and Scott’s lawyer.
